Walter “Walt” Disney was born on December 5, 1901 Hermosa, Illinois. Walt and his brother co-founded Walt Disney Productions,which is known as the best motion-picture production companies in the world.Walt Disney won 22 academy awards in his lifetime.Disney spent most of his life in Marceline, Missouri and he began drawing and painting pictures and selling them to family and neighbors. In 1919 Disney moved to Kansas City and his brother Roy got him a job at Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio where Disney met a cartoonist Ubbe Eert Iwwerks from there on Disney started working at the Kansas City Film Ad Company.Walt Disney made commercials based off of animation.At around this Disney started experimenting with a camera and started making hand drawn animation and decided to open his own business. From the ad company he used to work at he hired his first employee, Fred Harman. Disney and Harman made a deal with there local theater to screen to animation cartoons they made called, Laugh-O-Grams. The cartoon become very popular and Disney decided to open his own studio which he carried off the name “Laugh-O-Grams”. They created a series of 7 minute animations and live actions called “Alice In Cartoonland”. By 1923 however, the studio became buried in debt, and Disney was forced to declare bankruptcy. Soon later the Disney brothers gathered more money and moved to Hollywood Iwerks and also relocated in California. The three began Disney Brother Studios. Their first deal was with a New York distributor Margaret Winkler, to distribute their Alice cartoons.They also invented a character called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and contracted the shorts at $1,500 each. A few years later Disney discovered that Winkler and her husband, Charles Mintz, had stolen the rights to Oswald.Right away the Disney brothers, their wives and Iwerks produced three cartoons featuring a new character Walt had been developing called Mickey Mouse. In 1929, Disney created Silly Symphonies featuring Mickey’s new friends, including Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse , Donald Duck , Goofy and Pluto.
