The sinking of the Titanic was one of the most shocking and surprising events of the 20th century. Titanic was one of the greatest and biggest ship of its day weighing 46,000 tons and 882 feet long. Due to it's large engine size, they used about 825 tons of coal per day. The top speed of the Titanic was 24 knots which was very fast for its time.
The Titanic was on its maiden voyage when the unthinkable happened. The Titanic left Southampton, England on April 10,1912 not knowing at her terrible fate. After sailing smoothly for 4 days, she struck the iceberg on April 14. The Titanic hit the iceberg 350 miles southeast of Newfoundland, Canada. She went down in under 3 hours with only 706 of her passengers and crew surviving. There was 1,503 people who didn’t survive.
