Titanic was one of three "Olympic Class" liners commissioned by the White Star Line to be built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The Titanic had magnificent vessels that were the industrial’s best creation of their generation and the Titanic was the biggest, fastest and most luxurious liner.
It took 3 years until the Titanic was finished. It was a city on a boat getting ready to set sail on her first voyage from Southampton to New York. The Titanic left Southampton on April 2, 1912, hoping to reach New York in at least 7 days.
On 14 April 1912, more than 1,500 people died including the Captain in the Atlantic ocean. Captain Edward Smith's last words were, “Well boys, you've done your duty and done it well. I ask no more of you. I release you. You know the rule of the sea. It's every man for himself now, and God bless you.” Sooner or later, 306 bodies were found and taken to Halifax, Nova Scotia for further more research.
The Titanic was making a lot progress across the Atlantic ocean. Although the Captain Smith had to make a new path due to the ice warnings, there were many more warning about ice being in the Titanic's path that day. On Sunday night 14 April 1912, the sea was flat, calm, clear moonless sky, and the temperature was dropping till it was freezing.
By 11.40pm, the watch guards sounded the alarm and telephoned the bridge yelling "Iceberg, straight ahead.", but it was too late. The warning was too late to avoid the iceberg which soon the Titanic struck it at less than 40 seconds later, tearing a lot of holes along the side of the hull.In less than three hours the Titanic would lay at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean, nearly 4 kilometres down while taking more than 1,500 lives.
