The Titanic was a tragedy that was remembered by almost the whole world. But it all occurred due to human mistakes, it could have been avoided. In the early morning hours of April 15 1912, the Olympic-class ocean liner, RMS Titanic, considered “unsinkable”, biggest and fastest ship at the time, hit an iceberg and sank during its maiden voyage. There were an estimated 2,000 passengers and crew on board. 1,517 of those people dying, 53.4% of those victims being able to survive if there were the right amount of life boats. But the passengers “didn’t pay to see lifeboats”. The iceberg hit the side of the boat causing it to sink way faster than expected, (even though it wasn’t expected.)
The Titanic’s departure was Southampton, England and was headed to New York, USA. The titanic was being controlled by Captain Edward John Smith, who was considered the most skilled captains at that time and was nick named the “Millionaire’s Captain”. The ship was owned by White Star and designed by Harland and Wolff Company, one of the best companies at time. It took three years to make during construction. The designer was Thomas Andrews and Alexander Carlisle. The chairman of White Star was Joseph Bruce Ismay also known as the Titanic’s owner (human-wise).
The wreck of the Titanic was discovered 70 years after the disaster, in 1985. The ship was split in two whole pieces and descended 12,415 feet. Thousands of artifacts have been recovered from the wreck and put in museums for display purposes. Other artifacts have been used for study and for answers. Titanic has been the second biggest ship that has ever sank, the first was, HMHS Britannic at the time.
