Home PictureThe R.M.S. Titanic was and still is one of the most controversial tragedies that has ever occurred. The ship was carrying 2,208 passengers and crew. The ship was considered state of the art at the time and was called, “unsinkable”. The Titanic was 883 feet long and weighed 52,310 tons. It was on its way from Southampton to New York on its maiden voyage. This event happened more than 100 years ago and the wreck was found 70 years after. The captain of the Titanic was named Edward John Smith. Many people of the higher classes wanted Smith to pilot the boat because he was known for being the best. It was Aprik 10, 1912 when the Titanic first set sail nad April 14 when it hit the iceberg and 2:20 a.m. when it sank. 1,503 people died and only 706 lived.
